Salvation Mountain
Here’s my Son Michael on our Dove Hunting trip. We stopped to see Leonard at Salvation Mountain in Niland, Ca. (where we have Started Dove season for the last 35 years). Leonard started building Salvation Mountain from scavenged paint that he found and paint that was donated to him over the last 20 some odd years.
At instant signs we want to support him and donate 40 or 50 gallons of paint to the project, so we stopped by today to check and see if he was still there. We were saddened to learn that he was as been in a Elderly care facility since Dec. 2011.
We want to support his legacy, which was documented on Huel Howser’s “California Gold” years ago, and has been recognized As a California Folk Art Installation. If anyone would like to donate any colorful, or any paint, we will collect it for Adam, the new Artist caretaker, at Instant Signs, and deliver it in November 2013.
